Bio Gas Digester Project

A Viable Alternative in Electric Power Production

Many manufacturers including Caterpillar offer durable and reliable solutions for the use of biogas. The initial investment can yield significant long-range savings, in addition to being environmentally responsible. Biogas, which is derived as a byproduct of many agricultural, food processing and industrial processes, is used today as a fuel source for engine generators.
By tapping into biogas resources with proven Caterpillar technology, agricultural biogas and industrial biogas projects result in the:

  • Reduction of carbon emissions through the destruction of naturally occurring methane.
  • Reclamation of valuable land space normally utilized for purifying organic wastewater.
  • Elimination of odor and pest issues that are caused by the decomposition of organic material.

How It Works
Consisting primarily of methane and carbon dioxide, biogas is produced through the anaerobic decomposition of organic waste.

Instead of allowing uncontrolled decomposition of these wastes and the release of gases into the atmosphere, they are contained in an oxygen-deprived environment such as a covered lagoon or aboveground steel tank. From there, methane is extracted and burned to generate electricity or heat.

Because of the impurities and inconsistencies in biogas, pretreatment is generally required. However, using a gas engine specifically designed to operate on biogas can reduce the amount of investment in pretreatment. Cat low-energy fuel generator sets are engineered to handle fuel with variations in methane content typical of biogas operations.

Cat biogas engines typically include:
A crankcase ventilation pump to eject potentially acidic blow-by gases

Specially designed after cooler cores, cylinder heads, main bearings and connecting rod bearings that are hardened against corrosive elements

Differentiated cooling systems to operate at elevated jacket water temperatures to prevent condensation of contaminants

Cat switchgear with PLC based controls is supplied to parallel the generator to the local electrical grid to export renewable power at a premium to the local electric utility. For more remote installations, the power produced can be consumed by the facilities on site.

Bio-Methanation (Bio-Gas) enables us to produce bio-energy in households by treating the solid waste generated in town. This technology is also applicable to treating the solid waste produced from public places like markets, slaughter houses, hotels, and so on and for generating electricity without causing any pollution to the atmosphere.

In an attempt to effectively address the above issues, Bio-Methanation (Bio-Gas) is a universally accepted and proven technology for bio-energy generation from bio-waste. It is very simple, user-friendly, and needs no recurring expenses. Through the adoption of biomethanization technology, all degradable waste can be treated with the help of different types of anaerobic bacteria/microbes in a concealed chamber/digester. The treated biomaterials that come out of the digester results generation of electricity and can be used as a very good bio manure/organic fertilizer.

DPG Sansthan proposes for installation of high rate Bio-Methanation (Bio-Gas) Digester. The treatment of waste shall involve palpation of organic fraction to reduce solid concentration to the level acceptable by the digester. The Biogas thus formed through bio-degradation of the organics shall be collected in a biogas holder and utilized for electrical generation through gas engines. The power shall be utilized for electrical generation through gas engines. The residue which is rich in nutrients shall be dewatered and used as manure.

Municipal Waste Management:

The project may be implemented by SPV ( Special Purpose Vehicle) – DPG Sansthan alongwith one company with proven strong financial record and Nagar Nigam one and it is suggested that the entity who implements the project should run and maintain the system for 15 years after agreement with Local body .During these 15 years , Local body /Nagar Nigam technicians and employees may be trained by implementing agency .
